No.161: Finding the Best Fitting Bra

When it comes to finding the best-fitting bra, the process actually comes down to personal preference and not science. You have to decide what makes you the most comfortable and offers the right amount of support.

But actually tracking down the best-fitting bra isn’t always easy. It can be even more challenging if your body has gone through changes like having one or both breasts removed or getting breast reconstruction or reduction. Here are some of the things you should look for in a bra no matter what body shape you have:

    Fit Guide

How the band of the bra fits around your body is one of the most important things you need to consider. This is a key component that holds your bra in place. As the band wraps around your chest, it should be parallel to the floor.

Should the band move as you shift positions, this is an indicator that the bra is too big. If it feels like the band is squeezing your chest and is uncomfortable, this means the bra is too small. You might consider looking for a bra that has a wide band with stretchy elastic, as this may provide the comfort and support you’re looking for.

When it comes to cups, you want to look for a bra that will comfortably accommodate you. If your breast spills over the sides or are pinched, then the bra is too small. If your breast doesn’t fill the entire cup, then the bra is too big.

If you have a prosthesis, then looking for a bra with pockets can be beneficial. There are many options available, including sports bras and lingerie.

    Front Closures

When you buy your first bra after surgery, getting one with a front closure will make it easier to put the bra on and take it off.

    Overall Feel

When looking for the best-fitting bra, one of the things you should ask yourself is whether or not you would want to sleep in your bra. If you answer yes, then you know you’ve found the right one.
